The Indian singer renowned as an exponent of the ghazal form of musical poetry, died in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. Pankaj Udhas, known for songs like ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’, ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera’, ‘Ahista’ and ‘Chupke Chupke Sakhiyon Se’, passed away due to prolonged illness. His daughter Nayaab Udhas shared the sad news through her Instagram handle.
Pankaj Udhas, alongside fellow musicians Jagjit Singh and Talat Aziz, played a significant part in spreading the popularity of Ghazal music throughout India. In 2006, the Indian government bestowed upon Pankaj Udhas the prestigious Padma Shri award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the realms of music and art. In addition, Udhas composed songs for the Bollywood films “Aurat Pair Ki Juti Nahin Hai” (1985) and “Ek Hi Maqsad” (1988).
